I have had some really amazing things happen over the last week! I got my tutoring student and she and I have been working together for three sessions so far. The first session she was very shy so we did a get to know you activity and she seemed to open up. Then we started assessing. This was probably one of the most challenging things that I have done in my teaching yet. There is just so much riding on the assessments that you cannot mess them up! I was having the hardest time finding her instructional level when doing a running record. I was getting really frustrated because she was breezing through all of the books that her ZPD that I got from the school said she could not read. So I kept trying and trying and finally on the 6th or 7th running record I found her level. That was a really big accomplishment for me because now I am able to continue with my tutoring. I also got to help one of my students stay organized this week and several times he has come up to me to show me his desk and to tell me that he is doing what I asked him too. This is a student that did not look at himself proudly and now he has something to be proud of. He is just so excited for that extra attention and that makes me feel like I am actually doing something in that classroom. I also go some good news from my teacher! She invited me to teach anytime that I want. I think that she is finally seeing that I am capable of doing the small things around the classroom and is starting to trust me with something big. I am really loving this whole partnership thing. It can be very challenging sometimes and so stressful but I know that it will all pay off in the end and I am having a great time with my class!
